Your local hardware store will sell you plastic "dropcloths" used for
painting. They typically have several thicknesses, with the heavier
weights being sold as "heavy duty". The heaviest weight seemed a bit
too thick, but I picked up a 9' x 12' sheet of 'regular' plastic,
which should keep me in cones for a looonnng time. Cost: $1.19.
