I mix my hair henna about the same consistency as for paste for skin
and it's thick enough to stay put and gets to the roots. Maybe it's
your application method that needs tinkering with rather than your
henna. I part my hair and slather henna down the part. Then I take
a small handful of hair and put henna at the roots then smear it
upwards and spuck it on top of what's already been hennaed. This
ends up in a giant green-mud beehive. Last, I take any leftover
henna and dump it on top, then mush the hair around to make sure that
everything got covered. After that, the plastic wrap and whatever
else and I leave it on for at least 45 minutes and get a great
color. I actually haven't noticed a color difference between 45
minutes and overnight on my hair, but I think others have.
