how do I approach salons about hiring me to do henna?

I read CCJ's business rant, and I would like to start doing henna 1
or 2 days a week out of a local salon (don't know which one yet; have
a couple in mind). I live in central NJ, so I think there would be a
market for my services, between college students, a large East Indian
population, and hopefully other people as well.

I've been doing henna for about a year, and have had various friends
and acquaintances suggest to me that I do good enough work to get
paid for it. However, I am really nervous about this, I guess I have
never really thought of myself as "artistic," and also tend to take
rejection kind of hard. How should I approach salons about hiring me?
Do I call and ask to speak to the owner, or should I show up with
photos of work I've done? What if they are not familiar with
henna/mehndi? How do I convince them that there is a market for this?
Would I need to have a contract with the salon?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
