: Now...the question....I was told by one henna artist that he puts a
: couple of pennies into his henna the night before. Is this an old
: wives tale passed down from his mother, or is there some scientific
: reasoning behind this? He says the copper makes his henna darker.

Metallic salts (read: rust or oxidation) DO improve the stain of most
vegetable based dyes, and I'd not be suprised to see that copper makes
the henna dye a bit darker. However, copper salts are poisonous, so
I'd look for other ways of darkening henna.
