Long time since my last chemistry class, thanks for the clarification!

When I tried black iron oxide in henna paste, I got no stain
improvement. When I washed off the paste, at first I thought it was
good, because the stain looked darker. However, this was just a
superficial effect, that vanished with a wipe-off.

However, on the silk, I did get a darker stain where steel safety pins
were piercing the fabric, and henna dried in contact with the metal.

So ..... yes I think it works, but I don't know if it's effective on skin.
