MDH henna is an excellent brand, but even the best brand can be
ruined by sitting on the shelf too long. See if you can find an
expiration date on the box somewhere, or keep an eye on the shelves
over a few weeks to see if they get any new stuff in.

Colora henna will be pretty much useless for body art not because of
the coarseness but because of the freshness; henna for hair doesn't
need to be as fresh as it does for body art. Always use henna that
specifies that it is for body art/skin. As for the smell, there is
not much you can do except learn to love it. I don't mind the smell
but I know that there are some people who absolutely hate it. You
could try experimenting with different teas, dried flowers, spices
etc. until you find a mix that cuts the smell a little.
