Punked-out henna

Interesting! I wonder if excessive lemon juice in the paste when
first mixing it would cause the henna to "punk out" as well. That
might be what went wrong with my last batch of henna, which was
admittedly runny, and didn't take such a good stain. I'll have to
experiment with that!

: Henna will "punk out" in excessive heat. Heat causes the dye to
: release from the henna. Lots of heat will just "cook" a paste,
: causing the dye to release very quickly, and then the paste goes
: dead. This is why refrigerating paste makes it last for 2 weeks,
and
: room temp paste for only 2-3 days.
