We have all SO been there. So long as the owner didn't fire you and
the client was moderately happy, you have the chance to show them how
good you really are, and a second chance is all anyone can ask for.

In the future, if your paste is misbehaving, I recommend taking a few
minutes to fix it rather than continuing to apply. You get a chance
to explain a bit on what henna is and where it comes from, and the
clients I've had when something like this comes up have been willing
to wait a bit in order to get the best I can give.
