Hi Nick!

I'm mostly a lurker here at the forum, but I've run into the same
feelings of late as well! So here's this lurkers 2 cents. I'm not
sure if this well help you or not but it seems to have started to
help me a bit.
When I started to question whether my work was actually art or just a
copy of someone else's, I tried to see ideas that would come from
other places then a pattern book or web page. What I did find was
some wonderful patterns on the fabric of a dress I own. I did both
feet with that. I saw a hand pattern on a billboard and another was
a wrought iron fence on a old brownstone apartment in my
neighborhood. Even one was the vine that was inching it's way up the
wall at a cafe. I try to commit most of the designs I see around to
memory and either try them right away or sketch them out so I can
remember later.
I used the fence design as a border in combination with another
design and it still felt rather original.
I understand your doubt and I hope this helps!

Back to lurking.... Michele
