Anne, I hear you loud and clear. Have you heard from Constance to
see what her stain was like? You used the same henna on her
yesterday that you used on yourself, right? Conditions yesterday
were ideal for henna: sitting in the sun, listening to African and
North African music, eating yummy food, sweating, dancing, laughing
etc. My sister got great color on the back of her hand and I am
using the same henna, and roughly the same mix as you are, though
maybe our timing is different. Or was this the batch that was the
mix of Ojai and Kenzi henna? Maybe that's the issue here? My henna
releases dye pretty quickly so if Ojai releases more slowly there may
be a conflict when they are mixed.

If Constance's henna stained well then maybe it is just your
chemistry these days.

As for how to guarantee that it works on clients....

- experiment...try all different permutations of timing, temperature,
recipes, terping, LSing etc.

- practice a lot on friends, even if it's just a dot or a line - ask
them to stop by on the day that you have a bunch of different
experimental hennas ready to go or do a little henna tour on your
bicycle, going to different people's houses, doing a little bit of
henna on each person, then the next day or 2 days later do the tour
again to take photos of the results and then compare

- consider the effect of the extreme heat and humidity of NYC these
days

Don't despair! There must be a solution out there somewhere.
