would depend a lot on how snobbish they are about the
art/craft divide, for one thing. I think that schism is
pretty recent, and very western. If you look at Japanese
art/craft, it isn't nearly as divided, and craft is not
nearly as devalued, as far as I can tell.

definitions of 'art' have changed so much over time (and
are still changing). There are so many preconceptions
about art, about what it is and isn't, what it's supposed
to be, etc. it's hard to know if to people are talking
about the same thing when they talk about art and what it
