These are a few quick sketches of one part of one minature, as an
example of what I found. The originals of each of these hands and
feet are barely 1/4 inch accross, so the detail is minimal but you can
see the positioning and rythem of the henna patterns. I drew these
viewed through a jeweler's loupe. The work is MS Owsley ADD 24,
commissioned by Sultan Husayn Mirza, executed by Farid al Katib,
Shiraz, Persia,in 1552. IN this folio there are 74 miniatures, many
of which show details of henna patterning on Persian women, men, and a
Christian man.
