Stress and probably hormonal stuff sounds like the culprit to me.

I wish I knew what goes on with henna, physically, when stress and
misery sink their fangs in. Dogs and other animals blow coat like
crazy when they're stressed or depressed. I think our skin does the
same, and that would have an adverse effect on henna, and I'll see if
I can find anything to back that up in dermatology PDFs when I get
back in the uni this fall. I found one that discussed that ageing
people who are ill and depressed have serious skin problems because
their skin becomes very thin and fragile. Maybe that has something to
do with it. When I'm exhausted and stressed, my henna won't peak and
the demise is fast and bizarre ..... after finals, on the trip to
Albuquerque, I could actually see the henna fade by the hour!
Something strange was going on.

I can only repeat what others say about the hormone thing .... I no
longer have any of my own.

Hm. I wonder if I could rig a fast test at Brushwood ..........?
Better go grab those free henna sheets I was going to leave behind.
Nothing scientific, but I could see if I can find any correlation
between self-evaluated happy/miserable/stressed/relaxed, menstrual
cycle and dark/light stains. Wouldn't hurt to try!
