What Brand? Where did you buy it? How Long did you leave it on?

Here are some reasons that may be why your henna didn't stain.
There are several factors to consider. What brand is it? Is it body
art quality? If you bought hair henna it probably won't take.
If it came from a Indian Grocery it probably won't be fresh enough to
take. Henna can sit on a shelf for months or years and become stale.
If it was so called "colored" henna that might also be why it didn't
stain. You also may not have let the paste sit long enough for the
dye to release. You may not have left it on your skin long enough.
Did you wash the henna off or scrape it off? Chlorine in tap water
can be a problem. Henna should not be washed for several hours to a
day after paste is removed if possible. When you remove the paste
scrape it off.
If you had lotion, oil or suntan lotion on your skin that would
prevent the stain from taking. Shoulders and back are a difficult
area to get good stains on. Henna takes best palms and soles and
hands and feet. Henna works best when mixed with lemon or lime juice.
Water will not make the henna acidic enough to release dye.
Hope this helps,
: Im completely bummed... my henna didnt work at all! I managed to
: apply the henna half decently, but after the paste came off that
: it. It didnt leave any sort of even minor stain.
