Many terrific hennas are a military green color even to a green-
gold. You tell if it's fresh mostly by the scent. It should be
strong and fresh-smelling, like fresh-cut grass or hay. Give it a
try by mixing it with some lemon juice and putting a dot on your
palm. After ten minutes, scrape away the dot. You should have some
light color. If not, try again after letting the paste sit out for
several hours. Some podwers release dye faster than others.
If the stuff you get is bad (and honestly, in most cases store-bought
henna IS dead) then you can always order online. Many Forum artists,
including myself, are happy to mail wherever you need it.
