Lauren,
I agree with you completely about the kindness of strangers, and your
story about the kids on the subway is great. NYC really is not an
unfriendly place in my book, at least, many of the *people* are
friendly....the environment is less than, sometimes, and henna?
fugeddaboudit!
I think doing something is the best way to fight depression, except
when you start doing too much and feel like you're getting nowhere.
I;m currently jobhunting, working at an internship that is fun but
totally unpaid (grrr), trying to promote henna with my best
geisha-face (NOT my strong suit), moving in a matter of weeks, playing
soccer and practicing martial arts, and getting ready for school to
start. Adding on top of that that my dear little sister is getting
married next month and, while I'm looking forward, I love her fiance
and think it's great, can't help but feel like the big clumsy spinster
freak (fortunately my brother feels the same) and all the emotional
crap of 9/11, homesickness, missing the earth and the trees...
then I breathe, I go to martial arts and get the ego knocked out of me
by my badass master ("RUN" "50 MORE SITUPS" !) and suddenly it all
seems easier. I got straight As in my first year of gradschool, I
have family and friends who love me, and I think, I can do this!
As you say we need to have hope.
We can do it. We have no choice.
Walk in beauty,

Anne
