Dye in henna

I'm testing four henna powders right now. One is Moroccan (not
Kenzi's) and is very brown. I'm used to that and expect Moroccan to
be that color. One is Indian and a nice green color. The other two
are obviously dyed, to the point where they turn black when left
unstirred. Yuck.
My question is what other effect does the dye have? Does it affect
stain? I had some before that was overdyed and weird bright green
that wouldn't stain worth anything. These seem to be doing okay so
far but the testing is not complete. Also, I have friends who are
allergic to most food additives including dyes and I'm wondering what
the effects would be if I applied the dyed henna to them. Is this a
food-grade dye?
