Difference between store-bought Jamila and from a supplier?

Anne and I followed Jamila's advice to try a store here in
Brooklyn that carries Jamila henna. We asked for a box that
hadn't been sitting in the sun and bought it for $3. it was in the
box which was wrapped in cellophane. We got it home, opened
it and found that the plastic bag it was in had a hole in it. We
opened the bag of henna and itwas a light olive green and barely
had a smell. When we mixed it up it was quite coarse...no big
pieces but just the overall powder was not finely sifted. I had
this same problem the last time I bought Jamila over the
counter...i even sent some to Nick thinking it was the good stuff
and he said it was awful.

I got a sample of the jamila from last summer from Natasha and
the fineness of it was to die for...the consistency was like
caramel when you mixed it. it was truly a dream so this stuff was
such a disappointment.

Any ideas why there is such a difference in quality between store
bought Jamila and the stuff from suppliers?
