It appears that not laying out the design first was a root of the
problem. Can I get an Aquarellable pencil at the local art supply?

Your suggestion was exactly how I was doing it. I had two pillows
under his head and his hands were resting under his forehead. I was
sitting on his butt. The back appears to be a difficult area to
henna. Jokingly, I kept telling him to stop breathing. I was holding
the tip of the cone steady, just above the skin so every time he
inhaled his back would rise, touch the cone and causing a smudge.

The design was centered and symetrical but the second he stood up the
left side totally slouched down and was about a good INCH lower than
the right side. It was one of your runic designs I was attempting to
do. I also had to stop him from pushing himself up off of the bed
push-up style because he was pinching his shoulder blades together.
