I believe the titanium dioxide keeps the henna paste silky smooth. I
did ask a cosmetic chemist about that ... and he said it would be
chemically inert but might change texture. Lord knows terped pastes
stored for months can have some unpredictable textures.

The iron may behave differently though. When I did the henna on silk,
where the safety pins penetrated, the henna was blackened. I did not
find iron oxide to improve the henna stain when I added it to paste
.... but one try isn't enough to come to much of a conclusion. When
henna is grown with its rootlets in an iron-rich solution, there is a
greater lawsone concentration in the buds. I suppose that might be
something to consider if there's henna hydroponic agriculture in the
future! (Whatta concept ... grow something LEGAL in the closet!)
