There isn't just one dye molecule in henna, according to one paper I
read. There are several tannins, though lawsone is the most dominant
and most stabile. I suspect that there are more fragile molecules in
the spring crops, that aren't in the later crops; some variants in the
plant may higher concentrations of some of these others, and some
soils and temperatures may favor some of these others.
