Aha. That would definitely help explain the variations in color and
performance among different kinds/crops of henna. Is the paper you
referred to available online? Thanks in advance.

Care to elaborate, Catherine? I remember seeing material somewhere
(on your site, perhaps?) that described differences in henna powder
from crops grown at different times of the year, but I'm afraid my
memory is fuzzy on this. Were you saying that spring conditions are
mild enough to prevent damage to fragile molecules, but "harsher"
summer conditions might serve to break down such molecules/compounds?
