This question came up way, way, way back .... do transvestite,
transgendered, or gay men do henna? Yea baby.

Excellent material on this is in "Behind the Veil in Arabia", (Women
in Oman) by Uni Wikan, University of Chicago Press, ISBN 0226896838
....... The answer is absolutely yes.

Everything you every wanted to know about intergender biological males
in traditional Oman, and they look very charming in pink frocks and
perfume, too, and they are called Xanith and serve a third gender role
in their communities.

I'm trying to organize my bookshelves... I'll pull a number of
references out here today and tomorrow ... hope someone finds them
helpful.
