It involves mixing the henna paste in a cheap plastic Ziploc bag and
placing it on top of a white paper towel or white facial tissue (in
an airtight jar of course). After 12 to 24 hours I lift up the bag
of henna and check the color of the facial tissue. If I get an
orange stain on the facial tissue then the dye release has taken
place. If I get no orange stain then this is a pretty good indicator
that the henna is useless or hasn’t sat long enough. A couple of
variables to consider would be how thick the plastic is and how thick
the paste is. If the plastic bag is very thick not much henna dye
will seep through. Same thing if the henna paste is very thick like
clay. This idea came about as I was not sure how to determine when
the henna paste was ‘ready’ so to speak.
