In "Tales Arab Women Tell, and the Behavioural Patterns They Portray",
Hasan M. El-Shamy, Indiana Univeristy Press ...

There is an Algerian folktale similar to Snow White: vain mother, who
always asks the moon who is the fairest of them all, and when her
daughter (Lalla Ayshah el-Khadrah) grows to be more fair than mom,
vanity turns into murderous jealousy. She's sent away to be killed,
but spared and falls into the hands of an ogre, who takes her as a
daughter (she declines to be his wife, or his next meal) She has 7
ogre foster brothers there ... and ... The 7 ogre brothers all fall
madly in love with the her, and all want to marry her. She says
she'll choose according to who has the reddest henna stain! She mixes
up a batch of paste, applies it to them all, and wraps their hands.
Next morning ..... no stain whatsover and she says she won't marry any
of them. She didn't use henna (just some shredded leaves) and they
didn't know the difference, but it got her out of being stuck marrying
Dopey, Sneezy, Grumpy, or any of the rest of the lot. Eventually, she
married the king's son, and all the ogre brothers married 7 ogre sisters.

(Kinda tempting to do e-books for children ... henna folktales and
illustrations! Arab folktales are a blast!)
