Islamic menstrual taboos are based on a concept
: of pollution/vulnerability versus purity/strength. For menstruating
: women, the vulnerability derives from the Evil Eye, and a world
: populated by Djinn, malevolent spirits irresistibly drawn to blood.

Just an FYI. I found this so curious. Two populations so far apart
geographically had such similar ideas. In Native American tradition
(at least most tribes) menstruating women were segregated off from
the other family members, due to the belief that evil spirits were
drawn to them. It was believed that the spirits tried to take the
blood and become living beings. Menstruating women were not allowed
to have sex due to the fact that the spirits were drawn to the blood
and if a life was created it could manifest these evils.
