Tamarind adds stringy-ness to paste, and some sugars, which help the
paste hold moisture and keep damp on skin longer. It is effective
for both and smells nice, too. I hadn't heard about its doing
anything for the color, except that of course if it's wet on the skin
longer, it will stain longer and therefore deeper.
