Pick up "Women in Islam" by Webeke Werther, and do some checking on
Wallada, 11th c. Some people are quite convinced that the poems
burned after her death were the explicit poems exchanged between her
and her lesbian lover after she booted out the guyz. After 1000
years, it's difficult to sort out who was sleeping with whom, were
they just flirting, were they doing Sufimetaphor about love ... or are
the poems what they look like: women who loved each other and found
the local guyz to be tiresome boors. "Women in Islam" has other
references on same sex relationships in the harem.
