Practice practice

One of the main problems I have with henna isn't recipes, it's
application. My lines are splotchy. My spirals are uneven. Elements
of a design that are supposed to be the same size aren't. I know
practice makes perfect but there's only so much skin surface a
person's got :) And once a design is on there I'm sort of stuck until
it's gone.

Does anyone have any ideas for practicing? I tried once by mixing
flour and water together. I put it into a carrot bag and was piping
it out onto wax paper. The flour and water mixture was way too gummy
and viscous and didn't act at all the way henna does. Cornstarch
maybe?
