Preserving Reds and other wedding advice needed

I have an appointment for wedding henna (and yes, that IS the sound
of me dancing about and singing!) but due to time constraints, the
henna has to be applied two days before, not the day before as I
would prefer. The first day of paste removal is when I see the most
brilliant reds, then the color darkens significantly. The best reds
go almost black by the second day. Since red is almost always a sign
or omen of good things for the marriage, I want to know if there are
ways to keep the red past the first day. I will be making no-terp
paste.
Also, I'm doing a rehearsal dinner/henna party for the relatives.
What sort of designs will they expect? Just little stuff? Hands
only? Do the bride's or groom's Moms get anything special? Just the
women get henna? This is an Indian wedding.
Thanks and you bet I'll post pictures after!
Lauren
