: "To us our deeds, and to you yours; peace be to you: we seek not
: ignorant."
: -Qur'an, Al-Qasas, Surah 28:55

Hmmm, I wonder if I could post this in my booth...frame it even!

: acceptable response. How about a simple "my teachers (insert
: acceptable foreign word translation here) in Morocco taught me
: (or our) tradition and that is..."

This is a great suggestion. I am accumulating all these great ideas
and hopefully can whip them out according to the situation. This one
should really throw them for a loop because many of them don't
believe (I kid you not!) that they have henna in Morocco, or anywhere
besides their own country. They give me the kind of look some people
give kids when they say they believe in the Easter Bunny.

: I do know what all this is about though, just last night my friend,
: who makes and sells (beautiful!)jewelry was showing it to some
: after our bellydance class. Some younger girls came up (19 range,
: offense to anyone in that range, but these girls just typified the
: stereotypes eh) and were looking at the jewelry and contemplating
: matching sets of one piece and how well it would match their
: hallowe'en costumes. As they were discussing having M *make* them a
: second matching set to buy, the other girl pipes up with "hey, I
: I can get my mom to order us some beads since she does craft stuff
: and we could just make it ourselves at way less than that price." M
: was very buddha about this but I was aghast! I think it has to do
: with a: inferiority complex and b: attention getting. A is obvious,
: but b is because they want to share in your glory. Since they can't
: show off how superbly wonderous they are, they can only attempt to
: cut you down. Take their crude behaviour and turn it on its
: ear. "There's always a different way to do anything, but I've found
: this technique to give me the best results, like this..." and then
: whip out a stunning cherry burgundy black henna design on yourself,
: helper or a photo. Let your work show them that you do know what
: are doing. After all, it's *your* gig, they ain't got one!

Sounds like your friend can really rise above it well. Like you say,
your work rises above it all and speaks volumes, more than any snappy

: "The one who thinks himself equal or inferior or superior to others
: is, by that very reason, involved in argument. But such thoughts as
: equal, inferior, and superior are not there in the one who is not
: moved by such measurements."
: -Sutta Nipata
Ok, gotta frame this one too!! Though that one is for me to remember!
