Yes! My Korean mother-in-law mentioned that she used to dye her
fingernails orange with the flowers and leaves of a plant...didn't
quite match the description of henna and since she was from North
Korea, the climate would be way too cold for henna...but it IS a
fascinating parallel...I wonder if it was done in imitation of the
fashionable Chinese ladies from Silk Route times (Tang Dynasty?) who
would have had contact with Arab traders and powdered henna...then
the fashion might have spread with Chinese diplomats to Korea...just
a thought...these kind of thoughts of cultural migration and cross-
mingling are really fun...
