: We're having an Ancient Egypt exposition at our local museum. I'd
: like to angle a henna gig in there. Can someone please point me in
: the general direction of information on henna in Ancient Egypt?

Past 1400 BCE, New Kingdom, there seems to be henna use on living
women, fingertips in particular. Some evidence of soles. Their
neighbors the Libyans and Canaanites used henna far more frequently,
and in patterns.

By 300 BCE, I've found clear evidence of henna patterning, solar
patterns, on Egyptian women's hands. From then on, it turns up regularly.

Old Kingdom time, henna was up in the Syrian/Turkish/Minoan/Mycenaen
area, but not as far as I can tell in Egypt on living women.

Can you wait till next week for specific references? I'm jammed up
until next Wednesday, but I've got them!
