I believe those would have impaired blood supply due to the chaotic
damage from the injury. Surgical cuts are generally tidier and with
less extra debris and damage than a gunshot wound, and the
closure/repair is done in a sterile theatre and with attention to
detail. Traumitic injuries have more periforal damage.

The self-injuries I've hennaed do pretty well, but they're generally
superficial. I've done an armful of cigarette burns into peacock tails!
