Kimia from Maureen @ EverydayMehndi
Posted by maxx on September 1, 2002 at 00:45:35:So's I get this package in the mail this morning, just in time as I'm
out the door to housesit til Tuesday. I've been Out Of Henna for
nearly 4 weeks. I sign for it, bring it upstairs, appreciate that it
travelled about 3000 miles in 3 days. Opening the package is
delicious, but it only gets better when the Whoof! of henna reaches
my nostrils. I ordered a bunch of different kinds, the 'jam pack',
including jamila. The greenest? Kimia. Ok, Kimia, now you're suspect.
I do my 'does it have dye' test. Mix a bit and smear it on something
painted with a latex based paint. Here it's the door jam. If I dot on
paste, let it dry and scrape off to find blue or green....dye!
No stain or orange...pure. The smell of Kimia is like bright algae
afterbirth(I find this heavenly). Some might say 'musky' or 'earthy'.
I have to say it's bigger than that for me. Smells like if I ate it,
precancerous cells would run screaming from my body.
I mix two batches, one w/ lemon and unsifted, one w/ lemon, cajeput
and a spot of clove, sifted. Neither left the ugly blue or green
stain on the doorjamb.
Next test...how fine is this stuff? I take the UNsifted batch and
stick it in a jaq bottle, screw on a .7, yes .7 tip and promptly
waste half the bottle waiting for a clog. Seriously. I didn't bother
to test out the sifted batch. Now to put it to flesh. My lovely babes
are clamoring for Me so I dare not attempt a serious design. "Cassidy
would you like a henna?" My 3 1/2 year old replies "I'd LOVE a henna
mama, I want a girl with snakes of her hair and a short dress of
flowers and hands showing and dance shoes" I can do that. It's 85 out
and strangely moist for s. CA(we call it muggy). Two smears and 30
mins later the paste comes off. This is the terped batch. It's Neon
Orange. A half an hour later. Neon. We'll see what she has on
tomorrow. I plan to do a serious design on myself tonight. I have my
camera and will post pics to my site next week as I'm not home 'til
Tuesday. I found I mixed it a bit too thin, but it'll work. This is
some seriously stringy stuff, reminiscent of melted cheese when you
pick up a piece of pizza. Know why I ordered Kimia? The brouhaha
about it. And I figgered Maureen wouldn't defend something so
strongly if it wasn't strongly worth defending. So. I do believe I
called it. I am crazy impressed. I wasn't expecting to be *this*
happy with a henna I'd never met. So. I share it with you, cuz it'd
be rude not to. Hoping all you mudslingers are having a blissful(or
whatever you need) kinda weekend. Peace be with you and also with you.
