: at the Pitt Rivers?
I did take plenty of notes at Pitt Rivers when I was there .... and I
doubt if I'll get to Oxford in January, but I believe the exhibition
will still be on next summer. I'll try to get some UK time in next
summer, but there's another potential that may eclipse it. Because
the colloquium falls within my school semester, I'll have to bunjee
jump in and out of England. Probably fly into London and take a train
back and forth to Liverpool.
I DO have to get back there to reference some pieces. My first big
thesis proposal will be to map henna from 7000 BCE to 500 CE ... using
climate, population movements, text mentions, trade routes, drought,
marriage patterns, artifacts, religious groups .... I want to
construct a moving map that will show where henna *could* be grown,
where henna is know to have been grown, where it was known to have
been used, in what way and by whom, century by century. Then ....
look at how it was moving along trade routes, advancing and retreating
through climate changes, population migrations, ..... sound like fun?
I want to go back to museums and get photographs of pieces and drop
them into that map .... of course one's at the Ashmoleon, ones at the
Met, one's in Greece ......... my crystal ball says there are MANY
pages of grant proposals in my future.
