I understand a lot of what you're dealing with. my parents are pretty
much the same way... they aren't really down on it but the way they
act is like they're thinking "this is just a phase it'll go away." of
course they had to worry about whether I'd get in trouble at work for
wearing it. that was the only question and when I told them my
manager thought it was pretty and didn't mind they just nodded and
went back to what they were doing. I understand how it feels to have
a family thats not particularly supportive. my sister thinks its some
thing only "certain people" should do (translation: "white girls
don't wear henna or saris or (dare I say it?) cornrows *gasp!*").
Just like she thought Soibahn was a black girls name.(I looked it up
its Irish and means "gracious") My mom mentioned that that was almost
my name and my sister got this shocked look and said "oh my God
WHY?!" *shmack* I'm gonna be hennaing my hands and feet for an SCA
event in a few weeks and I swear if she says anything I'm probably
gonna lose it. but my brother let me henna him so he's pretty cool. I
love my family... I really do I just wish when I'd show them my
foot/hand/wrist they'd just say "oh how cute" and be done with it.
hopefully one day they will. I'm getting them to warm up... slowly
but it'll happen. I'm gonna keep trying. everythings gonna turn out
right.
