Posted by Nichol on September 27, 2002 at 13:05:35:Hi folks,
I'm Nichol, a henna newbie from Mississippi! Varuni, my college
roommate (and best friend) got me hooked on henna not long ago. Now
we stay up all night drawing henna on each other, and we have a
blast. She prefers bold Polynesian markings; my taste inclines more
towards the delicate, floral Arabic designs. She did one freehand on
my left hand last night that's simply amazing -- now my right hand is
jealous, LOL! We get all kinds of questions from people around campus
about the henna tatoos, and we love telling folks about them.
Everyone's been very positive and curious so far.
Varuni's a Hare Krishna, so she suggested getting some of her
Sanskrit books and writing out words from that in henna. That got me
all fired up, and now we can't wait to practice writing Chinese,
Burmese, Hindi, etc. in the henna! We're also trying to find a way to
make the henna darker. I know you can wave your hands and feet around
in smoke to darken the markings, but for obvious reasons this
technique wouldn't work so well for a tatoo on your tummy. Varuni
suggested getting walnut hulls and dyeing the henna; any suggestions?
