Ignorance is NOT bliss - Rant!!! - Long
Posted by Ms Michele on September 27, 2002 at 15:19:49:Hi all....
I need the kind and encouraging words of the Forum today. I was all
set to give one best friends a blessing with some pregnancy henna.
BUT.... She went to her OB and the OB told my friend that she didn't
think it was a good idea because "henna, like hair dye is absorbed
through the skin and pregnant people should avoid it". So.... I gave
Which included this: "Well.... The henna I use is all natural. The
henna she's thinking of contains PPD which is the same chemical
that's in hair dye. Putting PPD directly on your skin isn't good for
anyone pregnant or not. Natural henna is 100% COMPLETELY SAFE FOR
EVERYONE. And if you want all the medical documentation and
published medical journal papers to prove that I can provide them.
But it sounds like it may be a battle not worth fighting. The
rocking the boat kind.
What I do have a problem with is the doctor going around telling
people that henna is harmful. Which natural henna is DEFIANTLY NOT."
The reason I said the part about the battle not worth fighting is
because of her husband. I know I could probably enlighten her OB
with numerous published medical articles (Thank you Catherine). But
her husband is a VERY closed minded person. He was the person
spewing the racist filth after September 11th. I know no matter what
I show him or what proof I have, I'm still not a doctor and there's
no reason I would know anything about anything. Even if I change the
doctors mind. Meanwhile he sits and smokes more then one chemical in
front of his pregnant wife every evening. <sigh> I don't know what
she sees in the man.
By the way. I've up dated my web page to include my first Art Fair
this summer. I am still working on the links page so patients
please. Feel free to browse and let me know what you think. My
apologizes for the lack of a "Pregnancy Henna" page. <huff>
Sitting and stewing....
