Here's a very basic recipe: mix 2 heaping tablespoons of henna
powder and 2 teaspoons of sugar with enough lemon juice to make
toothpaste consistency. Cover and leave at room temperature for 12
hours. Add 2 teaspoons of essential oils, all of the following seem
to work well: cajuput, lavender, geranium, clove, tea tree,
eucalyptus. You should have slimy toothpaste consistency. Cover
with plastic wrap so that the wrap is actually touching the paste.
This will help avoid air contact. I usually put on 2 layers of
plastic wrap. Leave it at room temperature for 12 hours before
using. Apply designs to the skin, leave the paste on the skin for
at least 2 hours. There are more tricks to get a darker stain, but
for now, this should be enough information to get you started with a
really good stain. If you still don't get a stain after this
recipe, I would start to suspect a problem with your henna powder.
The color of the powder is not always an indication of how fresh it
is..
