Interesting fadedown

I recently did a design on the top of my foot that I sealed with
liquid latex and left on only 2 hours. I used Jamila, cajeput, lemon
juice and honey. The color developed into a rich brown that lasted 14
days before I scrubbed it completely off. I wasn't too surprised
about the great color since I terped the paste. There was, however,
no fade to that sickly orange. Just brown all the way down.

A couple of weeks later I did another design on the other foot using
the same recipe with the exception of the oil. I'd used all the
cajeput in my last batch so I used Tea Tree oil this time. I sealed
the design with latex and this time I slept with the paste on. The
color was fabulous, a rich cherry red. The odd thing was the
fadedown. It faded much quicker (lasted only 10 days) and went to
orange.

I would have thought that the longer you leave the paste on the more
epidermal layers were stained therefore a longer lasting design.

Hmmm.
