: Testing is definitely a good idea. Depending on where professional
: hairstylists are from you can get different replies as to whether
or
: not you should henna over a perm. Almost every North American
: stylist says don't. Most stylists I've met from Hong Kong say it's
: fine. Mine used to tell me it was okay but not to henna shortly
: before getting a perm because the perm wouldn't take as well. She
: also said to wait at least a week after a perm so as not to weaken
it.
:
: I used to henna over perms all the time, but I still think it's a
: good idea to test.

I have been a hairstylist myself since 1989, but henna is one of the
things that we never touched on in school, or any place I have worked
at since school. I prefer to do the cuts and perms though and leave
the coloring to the other stylists. Had a bad experience in Beauty
School when the instructor gave me a formula to do a lady's hair an
ash blonde. Wellll, I questioned whether or not I should do a
neutral blonde, but the instructor insisted on ash because the client
did not want any warm highlights to it at all. - Welll, now I can
say I know what frog-butt green looks like on hair - blech!
