I never saw any evidence that the bottled lemon juice was adding
contaminants. Distilled water is ok by me. White vinegar might be a
good compromise.

I DO object to the 24 hour wait. The green dye disperses evenly by 24
hours. I want people to be able to see the green dye about 20 minutes
after the lemon juice (0r water) hits it so the distinct dye particles
are observable.

As for lumpiness .... I put a second clean new slide on top of the
first slide and rub them together. This mixes them .. and ... I hear
crunching if there's grit.
