Well, it all started a several thousand years ago........just
kidding!!

My first official gig was a complete success!!!! I have only been
doing henna since June and was very apprehensive about my skills as
an artist. But, ever since I met this wonderful woman, you all know
her as Maxx, I've had the thought in my head "maybe I CAN do this?"

Our day started very early in the morning, on the road at 5:30am, up
to Ojai(CA.) by 7:30,unloaded and all unpacked up by 9ish. We were
set up in a park with a grove of ancient oak trees, next to a gazeebo
with live music and belly dancing all throughout the day. The sights
and sounds of this event were incredible. A tiny town of 30,000
(including outlying areas)had all come out to honor their community
in a big way. It was a beautiful setting. Maxx and I both, were
steadily busy throughout the whole day, however, at one point we were
slammed and had 12 teen and preteens, patiently waiting for us! It
seems the other henna artist that was at the same event(in a
different section), was charging more than we were for the simple
designs....I think that lured away alot of her business! The
majority of our day was spent doing the $5 designs, for little girls,
who only had that much in their pockets to spend. We were able to re-
coup our expenses, and put a nice sum in our own pockets. By the end
of the day though, we were both just wiped out...we remembered to
drink water...but we kinda forgot to eat until much later...

I discovered that a good booth bitch is definitely necessary when you
are so busy. I tried to have the hubby do it, but unfortunately,
well, lets just say...I need to do some Booth Bitch 101 training with
him. He did his best, and was very accomodating, fetching change and
water etc.

The day went by so fast, most of it is still a blur, coming back to
me in bits and pieces. The people were great the atmosphere was
perfect, and to quote my henna partner "we made many people very
happy today", and for me, that's all that matters.

Well Maxx, care to share your musings with the group???

Peace to all.

KariB
who's off to soak her entire body in epsom salts and Ben Gay!)
