I had a terrific weekend at a local Art Festival. It ran from 10-5
on Saturday and Sunday. No alcohol was served. I think it might
have caused fewer people to attend the festival, but I really
enjoyed not contending with drunks for a change.

Previously, I had been working out of a cheapo screen tent. It did
the job, but I could't really do much for decor and signage, and
people couldn't see inside too well.

The day before the festival, my husband comes home from work, grabs
my hand and takes me outside to see a brand new professional pop up
canopy. So great to have someone supportive like that! I hung my
saris, and made up some more visible signage.

Mitch helped me set up in the morning, and then went home to watch
the kiddies. The days sort of meandered...4 or 5 customers at a
time and then a break for a while. I don't think I would have made
it through the weekend if I had to work non-stop both days,
especially running the booth by myself. But I still made nearly
$500, and I only paid $60 for my booth. I negotiated the vendor
fee, explaing that I shouldn't have to pay the $125 that the other
vendors pay since I don't actually sell anything tangible. it
worked!

I did sell a couple of bindi packs and a few henna kits. I met a
lot of people that were genuinly interested in booking me for
parties, especially teen birthday parties.

I did a lot of tummies and lower backs...I wish I had taken more
photos, but you know how it is when you're in the henna zone. Check
the link below for some pictures. Look in the Melbourne Art Fest
2002 ALbum.
