What do actual real live from-India people charge to do henna in the
US?
I've gotten a couple calls from women wanting henna and they ask what
my prices are. I either charge $50 per hour for personal stuff or
per-design starting at $10 plus travel expenses, whichever is cheaper
for them. I tell them that. One a few months ago said she knew
someone who would do it for $20 per hour. Yikes. Yesterday the
woman called me and asked and all she heard was $10.00. I don't know
what she's expecting for that but $10 is usually pretty basic. I
told my husband about it, saying that she would be my gateway to the
Indian community and so I was giving her a price break, figuring I'd
learn a lot, too. He said Yes, but the gateway is going to set the
prices for everyone she tells about you. Hey, look what this stupid
white girl did for only ten bucks!
I'm sort of in a weird place right now with starting into the ethnic
community. I really want to be there, to learn and to practice their
sort of henna, but I don't want to get taken.
Help?
Lauren
