You can post "excerpts" from articles with full citations ... and
that's generally acceptable.

You can produce your own original material, and that's generally
acceptable. You can base it on other people's work, preferably working
with several sources, preferably adding significant analysis or input
of your own ... and but you have to do your own writing and
production. How much referencing you do is negotiable depending on
the occasion.

If you put someone elses words and images, unchanged, up without
permission or citation, and present it as your own ... you're a dork.

The newspaper would have a right to get torqued if you did NOT list
their name, date, and byline if known. The newspaper might get torqed
if you did this without permission ... or it might not.
