This particular flea maket's "ambiance"...and another venue...whaddya think?Posted by Erika on April 2, 2003 at 12:46:07: In reply to: Anyone ever set up at the flea market? posted by Erika on April 2, 2003 at 10:18:43: This flea market is really like a red-neck mall. They have a coupleof aisles with used stuff, a couple of aisles with country crafty type stuff, a produce market, and the rest is new merchandise...incense, t-shirts, belts and purses, CD's, electronics, avon, plants, dollar store, Florida souvenirs, tools, "as seen on TV", etc...It's a heavily visited flea market and there are tourists since I'm on the beach in Florida. I was counting on the wannabe biker babe types and wannabe punks for business. There are also a lot of Asians and Middle Easterners that visit the market...though I have a feeling they probably shop in their own ethnic stores mostly. I guess there's no telling...It's a gamble. I may try a weekend and see how it goes. I also have a friend who just called up and said I could set up in her husband's tattoo shop. He's got a small front area that is virtually unused. I'm sure he'd charge me a really fair rate to set up and he's okay with me selling stuff there too. The only thing is that he's off the beaten path. I wouldn't get a lot of walk-in/ walk-by customers....if any. It would have to be his clients that might want something that I had or I'd have to really promote the fact that I was set up there. This sounds like the better deal for the moment. I guess I'm just tired of working my ass off trying to find festivals, lugging all of the equipment, finagling with the organizers, and worrying about the weather. I want to rest my weary bones in one place. I'll keep my once a month downtown street party (which would give me a place to promote my new business location) and occasional private parties. Whaddya think? Thanks, Erika
