That sounds upscale to me. The shop I work in usually charges around
the same for hourly work. Does he ever work based on the design
rather than hourly? Try finding that out too. It sounds like a good
bet to me.

Re: the jewelry- I would stay away from those Ebay lots. The best
thing to do is to order from a company that uses certified 316L
surgical steel. One that I can recomend is Black Star, (at
www. blackstar.on.ca). I would bet that you could wear 316L in your
ears without a problem. Most people with nickel allergies can wear
surgical, but the only experience they've had with it is the crappy
stuff they buy in the mall that isn't high enough grade, so they end
up thinking that they are allergic to steel too. Titanium is inert,
and thus will cause no allergies but also more expensive than steel,
and Niobium, which is an inert treated steel developed by Nasa. Hi
tech stuff. :) As far as cheap alternatives... there might not be
any. Good quality steel will be the cheapest, then Niobium, then
Titanium will be most expensive.
Let me know if i forgot anything,

: What is considered "upscale" for a tattoo shop? I know that this
guy
: is one of the best in this area. He charges $100 per hour...which
: is on the high side for my area. He gets away with it partly
: because he is fast and partly because he's that good. He doesn't
: even advertise in the yellow pages because he gets as much business
: as he can handle by word of mouth...supports a wife and four kids
on
: his pay.
:
: Concerning piercing jewelry...How can I know what is really
surgical
: steel? Or what isn't just plain crap. Is there some industry
: jargon I should look for in the product description? ...I saw some
: lots on ebay that were so cheap...and said they were surgical
: steel...but I don't want anyone getting nasty rashes or anything.
: Personally, I can't wear anything but gold and even then I can't
: wear any earrings but lever backs or I get infections. It's kept
me
: from getting any piercings anywhere but my ears. I want to get my
: nosed pierced, but I'm chicken...I can't afford to invest in gold
: piercing jewelry, but I assume there's a reasonably priced yet safe
: alternative I can sell?
:
: Thanks for the tips,
: Erika
