And yes, 1000 years is a long time to try to keep a convention in place and not have it corrupted. We can't even find a way to keep a government in place that long. It doesn't surprise me that an institution combining sexuality, spirituality, and commerce went terribly awry over the past 10 centuries. I get really resentful at those scholars I'm reading who look only at what is here *today* and not nearly enough at what came *before*. It's fabulous to find other wonderful minds who share this interest in temple women, and want to know more than what has been popularly reported for the past 200 years. Bless you all who responded~!
